Is Ngaire a popular name in Austrailia?
I have never heard of that name till now
Reply:Not a real popular name, but I used to know one. She used to live in Bendigo, Victoria. (Australia)
It's a New Zealand Maori name. New Zealand is those two islands to the right of Australia on the map.
Reply:ngforitis is popular too!
Reply:It's not at all popular in Australia, although I actually (by some freak chance) know two people with that name. Although I'm pretty sure one of them spells it "Nairee".
Anyway, New Zealand is an island nation east of Australia. It's got some lovely scenery.
Really, what is it with your continent and complete lack of any ability when it comes to geography?
Reply:I'm a grandma and I've only ever met/heard of one woman by that name here in Australia.
She was a Kiwi (New Zealander).
She pronounced it "Nar-ree".
Is that how you pronounce your name?
I don't think you could class it as a common name, here.
Reply:No it is NOT a common name in Australia.
I lived here for 35 years and never heard of it. My work deal with lots of people everyday and I have never come across it.
Reply:No, it is not common here.
Reply:Never heard of the name. It's unheard of in Australia - thank goodness!
Reply:I have only heard of perhaps three women with that name and one was an author from New Zealand a fairly long time ago. You sure the Facebook people were not in NZ?
Edit - Just had a quick look with the Yahoo search and I would say that 2/3 of the women of that name listed were from New Zealand. I always thought it was a New Zealand name mostly - looks like I was right. Pronounced Nar-ee. Might be originally a Maori name - who knows.
Reply:cant even pronounce it mate! what ya playen at?
Reply:Ngaire is certainly a New Zealand name . Many Maori names start with NG many chinese names are ng as well. I went to School in New Zealand and I knew of at least 2 Ngaires at my school none of them were maori girls but I believe it means flaxen or little white star so many mothers may have chosen it for a flaxen head baby girl. Also from New Zealand was Ngaire Dawn Porter a beautiful popular well known [several years ago] actress who made her name in Britain mainly in the Forsythe saga she was also in The Protectors she was born in 1936 and died in 2001 . so I would guess many Mums to be came up with the name Ngaire from her. There are a lot of new Zealanders in Australia . the name is pronounced Nyree. I once lived in Ngaio in Wellington NZ pronounced Ni O
Reply:i'm australian and i've never ever heard of it

you'll DEFINELTY be unique :)
Reply:you tell me where Canada is, and I'll tell you where New Zealand is!?!
Reply:not at all. I have never heard of it. Common names over here are names like josh, sam, emma and jessica
Reply:I'm in Western Australia and know of atleast 3 Ngaire's (pron. nar-ree). I thought it an unusual name, but very pretty!
Reply:Never even heard the name before, I dont know why there would be alot of facebook. Sounds more like an indigenous name to me.
