Do you think the name Lily is too popular now?

I've loved the name Lily for a long time and now that I'm pregnant I'm starting to seriously consider it if I have a daughter. The only thing is, I don't want a name that is TOO popular, like Jessica and Jennifer in my generation. Seems like alot of people are naming their little girls Lily and I don't want her to be Lily #4 in class lol. What do you think? Also I was thinking Lily Marie for middle name.

Do you think the name Lily is too popular now?
I only know 1 little Lily....it sounds cute, and lots of ppl say they like it , but it doesnt seem to me that it's used alot.....I think it's a beautiful little name!!
Reply:sort of, but really not in a bad way. Lily is a gorgeous name, and it's so timeless and classic that i don't think a sudden popularity burst will ruin it. like there were Lily's a hundred years ago, but no Jessica's (i think). i doubt Lily will become ingrained in people's minds as a 'millennium' baby name, like Jessica was such an '80's name.

and by the way, Lily Marie sounds like a really sweet and lovely name! maybe you could try considering using Lily Marie as her full first name, to make her a little more unique (like i know one Emily Anne who goes by that all the time, even without a hyphen). Lily-Marie would be really pretty too, and this way, you could choose another middle name you like for her (Lily Marie Elizabeth would sounds gorgeous, or something like that). and though i love the sound of Lily alone, there's also always the options of going with a longer name, like Liliane, Lilith, Liliana, Lila, etc.

good luck and congrats!
Reply:I haven't heard too many naming their little ones Lily around here (UT), but I DO think it's an adorable name, especially paired up with Marie. Lily's are gorgeous flowers, too (one of my favs!). I say go with what you feel is best in your heart... besides, the only thing to really change that will be if you look into her sweet face when she's born and it just doesn't feel right anymore. Sometimes that's the only thing to change it - seeing your baby and knowing that the name you've chosen does or doesn't fit her. Until then, Lily Marie sounds like a wonderful choice!
Reply:I agree it definitely is popular now, I grew up with a popular name as well - Sarah and in almost every single class there was another sarah - one time there were actually 3 and it definitely gets annoying especially when someone calls "Sarah" and you turn around and there talking to someone else. As for your name I think it's lovely, if you like it then that's your decision, yes there may be 4 other lilys but if you genuinely like the name and didn't just look thru a book like most and say "hey, lily that's a nice name, popular, over run but nice, lets name our kid that" then that's all that matters right?
Reply:I think Lily is becoming increasingly popular, and, although it is pretty, there are guaranteed to be many Lilys that your daughter will come across.

What about Liliana? [Lil-ee-arn-a]

And Lily for short?

I think thats cute.

Lily Marie doesn't flow too well..what about

Lily Anne

Lily Jane

Lily Miranda

Lily Crystal

Lily Jade

Lily June

Lily Ava

Lily Noelle

Best wishes.

:-)
Reply:I think it is too. Esp after SATC's Charlotte had a Lily in the movie. I personally don't like Lily- too plain. However, I have prelisted 'Liliah" to my fave names for my coming daughter. Some other options I don't mind are:

Lilly

Lillia

Lilliah

Lilliana

Liliana

Liana

Lillah

Lillian

Lilla

Lillis

Lillie

Lillith

Lilyan

Good luck!
Reply:As much as I see the name suggested, and suggest it myself (it's one of my favorites too) I don't actually know anyone with that name, either my own age od any of my younger cousins or my friends children. So I wouldn't say that it's overly popular at all.

And Lily Marie is a gorgeous name!!
Reply:I think Lily is becoming more popular, but not to the point of Jessica's and Rachel's and Rebecca's. I think go for it if you love it! We are trying to name our baby girl and it's hard... if you strongly feel that Lily is the name you want, I definitely wouldn't pick anything else. When you know, you know! Congrats on your baby!
Reply:no, i only know one person with the name lily.

it's a really nice name.

i like lily-isabelle aswell as lily-marie.

if you think it is too popular, you could always have it as a middle name? eg. rhea lily, amara lily, emmie lily or morgan lily. it's up to you, good luck
Reply:I love that name. It's beautiful. I don't remember it being overly popular, but according to the SSA it was #21 in 2007. Still, go with what you like!
Reply:I only know one person named Lily, so I suppose it isn't too common. It's definitely a beautiful and unique name and it reminds you of something pleasant and beautiful :) Lily Marie is a gorgeous and classy name! Congratulations and good luck.
Reply:If it's what you like in your heart you need to go with it! That is so cute. Ive had alot of friends who have recently had kids and known of alot...and Ive only heard of one Lilly.

I think your good! Name her Lilly...maybee pick a middle name that's different, and one syllable so it goes with...like Lilly Ann, Lilly...ect.

Congrats on the baby girl!!!
Reply:I think it's cute. And I don't know any Lilys at all! You need to ask yourself, in a couple years when you don't see Lily as often and you've named your daughter something else are you going to regret not naming her what you really wanted ?
Reply:Yes, it's getting there. I worked in daycare and there were several Lily's. Marie is also probably the most common middle name ever... I would choose something else altogether. =] Laila is similar but sounds more modern. Laila Madison?
Reply:i only know 1 lily. i dont think its getting too popular but i think it is becoming a popular middle name. I love your choice of lily marie and i would totally go with that =) congratulations and good luck
Reply:I don't come across too many Lily's. I have always loved the name too. Maybe you could hyphenate it Lily-Marie to help make it different to avoid the Lily#4 thing.
Reply:Yes it appears to be too popular - try other variants, like Lila and Lilian, which are less popular than Lily based on the chart here: http://www.babynamespedia.com/meaning/Li...
Reply:i think u have a lovely name picked out. to be honest with you around where i am from that name is hardly ever used. i would go with it. good luck to you
Reply:I know at least 4 Lily's off the top of my head. I would say that yes, it's too popular right now.

Check your area and see what's popular.

Reply:I dont really think its too popular. I actually only know of one person with that name. If you love it, go for it! Its a beautiful name!
Reply:I work at an elementary school and there are about 160 kids in the school and there are 5 Lilly's if that helps. If you like the name though who cares how many kids are named that.
Reply:I think Lily Marie is a B-E-A-Utiful name!! I don't think it's that common. I think it's still one of the more unique names. Hope this helps. Congrats!
Reply:I like the name lily its cute....i dont think its too popular =D I dont recal there being even 1 lily in my classes

Reply:Absolutely too popular. It seems like everyone's favorite girls' name is Lily.
