Has "Homer" become a popular name for babies since The Simpsons TV series began?

I do not know anyone named homer -young or old-

Has "Homer" become a popular name for babies since The Simpsons TV series began?
I am an employee for a contracting company that works with newborn babies in hospitals. I have never, NEVER heard of a baby with the name HOMER!!! So, if you are considering the name no matter when you have a child your child may be the one and only besides the original Homer Simpson!!!
Reply:No, Homer was very popular around 1880-1890 and tapered off, dissappearing almost completely by 1980. Simpsons started in 1989.
Reply:Homer should only be used in baseball, like= Oh, wow, he just hit a homer....
Reply:i think you watch too much tv...
Reply:Some famous person named their kid Homer. Anne Heche I think. What an awful name. . . but I'd rather be named after the Homer of the Odyssey than Homer Simpson! ;-)
Reply:Yeah, Homer's a real role model. Stands to reason that every prospective parent would want to name their kids after him.
Reply:No I don't think so. lol
Reply:Dear God, let's hope not. What an awful name!
Reply:Really? I thought it was because of the popularity of the Iliad.
Reply:I've never heard of anyone named homer in my life. Besides homer simpson
