Trends. When I was a lad, every third boy was named John, for JFK. Nowadays, Johns are pretty rare. When I was a boy, Crystal was something you gave at weddings, not even a cat's name. But post 1980s, Crystal became amazingly popular as a girl's name.
It goes in cycles.
