What is the most popular Native American Indian name? Have they special holidays within each tribe?

Native Americans are the true Americans. Their heritage and religion are rich treasurers to be born with. They have great pride in the name they are given as it is designed to capture in one word, the essence of someone. Each name has a meaning and a purpose. For the rest of us, we don't usually chose a name for a newborn child that would have a special or particular meaning (except for the parents own heritage for the child to continue with the family name and perhaps the heritage). I'm interested in some Indian names %26amp; the meaning of that name as it pertains to you if you are a Native American.

What is the most popular Native American Indian name? Have they special holidays within each tribe?
All of these answers are written by people who know very little. I think the question was asked in a respectful way and it deserves a respectful answer. The fact is there are over 500 Nations and while some are similar to others there is as much difference in cultures as there is in Europe and Asia. Every Nation has a different way of naming children and the types of names are completely different. Naming after animals and their attributes apply to some, others are more descriptive of the history or accomplishments of the individual. In many Nations an individual may have more than one name or may acquire a different name after an important event in the individual's life. The question is too big to answer completely here. My childhood name is Ts'a jisgan and it means sage gatherer and it was given to me by my grandmother because I liked to help collect sage. I have other Dine names but they are private to me and family.

Reply:That unfortunatley is more of a lost tradition. Most Native Americans have pretty anglo names. Many do have their last names that still have some significance such as, Afraid of his Horse, Shoots the Enemy and Brings Water, are all actual last names that are currently used in the mid west on reservations such as Standing Rock and Pine Ridge.
