Why is name paul such a common popular name?

i been seeing name paul everywhere these days

in books and streets

and i thought name John was common...

Why is name paul such a common popular name?
He's the guy who wrote many books of the new testament, and started the Christian Church.

So its been pretty popular throughout history
Reply:St Paul was the Apostle to the Gentiles in the early days of Christianity. In the New Testament of the Bible, he wrote the Epistle to the Romans and the following Epistles; 1 Corinthians, 2 Corinthians, Galatians, Ephesians, Philippians, Colossians, 1 Thessalonians, 2 Thessalonians, 1 Timothy, 2 Timothy Titus and Philomon. His authorship of the Epistle to the Hebrews is debated.

Because of the vast contribution that Paul made to Christianity and to western civilation in general his name is still used even if people don't believe strictly in Christianity. It may be a family name or people may just like it as a name.

Paul comes from the old Jewish mane Saul. Saul of Tarsus.

I favour following the Jewish meaning of the name. I think that this latin origin of the name is a bit skew wiff. I don't know where it comes from. I have always been told that Paul has its' roots in Saul and that was his name before he was renamed Paul as an apostle.

As for St John the Apostle. He wrote the Gosple of John and the Book of Revelations in the New Testament of the Bible. He was the only one of the 12 apostles not to die a martyrs death. He was buried at Ephesus.

The meaning of John is given hear.

John comes originally from Jonathon in the Old Testament.

The name of Jonathon goes back to the early time in the Old Testament. Jonathon is the son of Saul. (1 Samuel 14:1) Saul was anointed leader of Israel by Samuel (1 Samuel 9:27).

Both of these names are of ancient origin and have stayed with us for thousands of years in different forms in different languages. I hope that this bit of information helps clear the air about why they are so popluar.

Cheers!!!
Reply:Because it's biblical.
